Gravity Goat (2) - Writing a first draft

Writing a first draft. In my first blog, I talked a little about writing the first draft, though it is fair to say I skipped over a few steps. Writing a first draft is way more complicated than what I previously wrote down. So, to give a little more insight in my upcoming book, Gravity Goat, I will take you …

F&F-2 | 3. Character sketch

I made the necessary adjustments to the concept, which were necessary because of the changed main character (from father Hendrik to daughter Aaltje). In addition, I set out the stakes by identifying the plot points, midpoint and pinches. I now have a schematic layout of the chapters that are to come, based on these points. Missing piece…

A lot of research preceded the book ‘Uitgevlogen Ziel’ about the rye bread baker Hendrik Baalman. Various archive documents from the Westfries Archief in Hoorn were consulted. Sometimes on a hunch, sometimes very specifically.
One of the archive documents mentions that Hendrik’s household effects were sold publicly. Copies of this were searched for a long time, but they have not (yet) been found. That is a great pity, because we would have liked to know what Hendrik and his wife Neeltje had in their home.
